The Nightdippers of HSC-5 are one of the East Coast's premier helicopter sea combat squadrons, based at NAS Norfolk and deploying aboard Atlantic Fleet carriers to provide combat logistics, search and rescue, and vertical replenishment. They have supported every major Atlantic Fleet carrier deployment since the helicopter era began, doing the night work and the rough-weather work that no fixed-wing squadron can do. The Nightdippers' name captures the essence of their mission: into the dark water, again and again, until the job is done.
