USS Arkansas

The Arkansas was a Virginia-class nuclear-powered guided-missile cruiser—one of the last nuclear surface combatants in the fleet. Commissioned in 1980, she provided long-range escort for carrier battle groups across the Atlantic and Pacific, unlimited by the fuel constraints that governed her conventional counterparts. Decommissioned in 1993, she represented a brief but significant era of nuclear-powered surface warfare. Her crew gave her every mile she sailed.
