USS Atlanta

Commissioned in 1982, the Atlanta is a Los Angeles-class nuclear attack submarine named for Georgia's capital city—the commercial and cultural center of the American South, a city that has reinvented itself more than once since Sherman marched through in 1864. The Atlanta served the Atlantic Fleet through the Cold War before her decommissioning in 1999.
