USS Austin

The Austin was the lead ship of the Austin-class amphibious transport docks, commissioned in 1965 and serving the Navy for over 40 years before decommissioning. She transported Marines and their equipment across the Atlantic and Pacific through some of the most challenging decades in American military history, from the Vietnam era through the Cold War and Gulf War. A true workhorse of the amphibious fleet, the Austin and her class set the standard for what a transport dock could be.
