USS Barry

Commissioned in 1992, the Barry honors Commodore John Barry, an Irish immigrant who became one of the most effective naval commanders of the American Revolution and a figure often called the Father of the American Navy. Barry captured prizes, fought superior British warships, and trained a generation of officers who would carry the Continental Navy into the 19th century. The Barry is among the longest-serving destroyers in the class.
