USS Bataan crest

The Bataan, commissioned in 1997, carries the name of the infamous 1942 Philippine battle where American and Filipino forces made their last stand. She has served in the Atlantic Fleet and deployed repeatedly to the Mediterranean and Persian Gulf, supporting combat operations in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her Marines know they sail on a ship with a fighting name, and they live up to it every deployment. The Bataan endures.
