USS Detroit

Fast Combat Support Ship AOE-4 was one of the Sacramento-class replenishment ships built to keep carrier battle groups fighting at sea. Detroit could transfer fuel, ammunition, and provisions simultaneously at speed — no slowing the battle group, no breaking formation. She served from 1964 to 2005, supporting operations from Vietnam through the Gulf War and beyond. To every carrier she pulled alongside, Detroit was the ship that kept them in the fight.
