USS Dewey crest
Commissioned in 2010, the Dewey honors Admiral of the Navy George Dewey, who destroyed the Spanish fleet at Manila Bay on May 1, 1898, without losing a single American sailor—announcing the United States as a Pacific naval power in the space of a single morning. Dewey remains the only officer in American history to hold the five-star rank of Admiral of the Navy during his lifetime. The Dewey serves the Pacific Fleet in the same waters where her namesake made history.
