USS Franklin D. Roosevelt

Named for the president who led America through World War II, the FDR—known to her crews as "Swanky Franky"—was the Atlantic Fleet's showpiece carrier through much of the Cold War. She deployed to the Mediterranean regularly, showing the flag and keeping the NATO alliance strong at sea. Decommissioned in 1977, the Franklin D. Roosevelt left behind a legacy of excellence that inspired generations of naval aviators. To serve on the FDR was to serve on a legend.
