USS Gunston Hall crest

The Gunston Hall, commissioned in 1989, is named for the Virginia home of George Mason—author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights and one of the Founding Fathers. She served in both Atlantic and Pacific Fleets as a reliable dock landing ship, carrying Marines and their landing craft wherever the amphibious force was needed. Never the most famous ship in the fleet, she was nonetheless always one that got the job done—a true professional.
