USS Hyman G. Rickover

Commissioned in 1984, the Hyman G. Rickover honors Admiral Hyman G. Rickover—the driven, demanding, irreplaceable father of the nuclear Navy who built the nuclear submarine force from nothing and imposed standards of technical excellence that have defined submarine culture ever since. It is entirely fitting that a Los Angeles-class boat bears his name; without Rickover, none of them would exist. She was decommissioned in 2006.
