USS John S. McCain

Commissioned in 1994, the John S. McCain honors both Admiral John S. McCain Sr. and his son Admiral John S. McCain Jr.—a father-son pair who between them commanded destroyers, fleets, and the Pacific Command across World War II and the Cold War. Homeported in Yokosuka, Japan, the John S. McCain was involved in a serious 2017 collision with a tanker east of the Strait of Malacca that killed ten sailors. She was repaired and returned to the fleet, still on watch in the Pacific.
