USS Laboon

Commissioned in 1995, the Laboon honors Father John P. 'Jake' Laboon, a Jesuit priest and former submarine officer who served in the Pacific during World War II and later returned to sea as a Navy chaplain—accompanying the first Trident submarine sea trials and ministering to the fleet for decades. A man of God who understood what it meant to be a man of war, Laboon's name on a destroyer is a reminder of what the Navy asks of all who serve. The Laboon is homeported in Norfolk.
