USS Mars

Commissioned in 1963, the Mars is the lead ship of the Mars class of combat stores ships—designed to supply carrier battle groups with ammunition, provisions, general cargo, and aviation stores while underway at sea. Named for the Roman god of war, the Mars served the Pacific Fleet for nearly three decades, supporting every major carrier deployment across the Cold War. She was decommissioned in 1993.
