USS Milius crest
Commissioned in 1996, the Milius honors Rear Admiral Paul Leonard Milius, a naval officer and early aviation pioneer who was killed in a flight accident in 1924—part of the generation that pushed the early boundaries of what naval aviation could become, often at great personal risk. His name has been carried on American warships across nearly a century. The Milius serves the Pacific Fleet, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan.
