USS Missouri crest
Commissioned in 1944, the Missouri is the Iowa-class battleship that holds the most important place in modern naval history: it was on her quarterdeck in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945, that Japan signed the Instrument of Surrender, ending World War II. Recommissioned in 1986, the Missouri fired Tomahawk missiles and 16-inch shells during Desert Storm in 1991 before her final decommissioning. She is now preserved at Pearl Harbor, moored above the wreck of USS Arizona.
