USS New Mexico

Commissioned in 2010, the New Mexico is a Virginia-class nuclear attack submarine named for the Land of Enchantment—a state with deep ties to the nuclear age through Los Alamos and the Manhattan Project. There is historical resonance in naming a nuclear-powered warship after the state where the nuclear age began. The New Mexico continues to serve as one of the Navy's most capable attack boats.
