USS Paul Ignatius

Commissioned in 2019, the Paul Ignatius honors Paul Robert Ignatius, who served as Secretary of the Navy under President Johnson from 1967 to 1969, overseeing the Navy during one of the most demanding periods of the Vietnam War. Ignatius prioritized modernization and institutional reform under enormous operational pressure. One of the newest destroyers in the fleet, the Paul Ignatius joins a long line of ships that honor the civilian leadership of the Department of the Navy.
