USS Pinckney

Commissioned in 2004, the Pinckney honors Steward's Mate Second Class William Pinckney, who earned the Navy Cross at Guadalcanal in 1942 for repeatedly exposing himself to enemy fire to rescue wounded sailors during a devastating Japanese air attack on USS Enterprise. Pinckney's courage under fire earned him one of the highest awards available to an enlisted man. The Pinckney serves the Pacific Fleet.
