USS Rhode Island

Commissioned in 1994, the Rhode Island is an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine named for the Ocean State—the first to declare independence from Britain and one of the founding naval colonies of America. She carries 24 Trident II D5 missiles as a core element of America's nuclear triad, patrolling the deep ocean in silence to ensure that no adversary can ever calculate a first strike without facing catastrophic response. She continues to serve.
