USS Russell

Commissioned in 1995, the Russell honors Rear Admiral John Henry Russell Jr., a Naval Academy graduate who commanded naval forces in the early 20th century and later served as the 16th Commandant of the Marine Corps from 1934 to 1936—one of the few flag officers to have led both naval and Marine Corps forces at the highest levels. The Russell serves the Pacific Fleet and has deployed across the Western Pacific.
