USS Saratoga

The "Fightin' Sara" was a legend of the Cold War Atlantic Fleet. Commissioned in 1956 and homeported in Mayport, Florida, she made the Mediterranean her domain—deploying to the Med more times than any carrier of her era. She launched strikes against Libyan targets in 1986 and her airwing flew combat missions in the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm. Sara was never the newest or the biggest, but she fought like she was, and her crew loved her for it.
