The Shiloh, commissioned in 1992, is a Ticonderoga-class cruiser named for the 1862 Civil War battle—one of the bloodiest engagements of the entire war. Homeported in Yokosuka, Japan as part of the forward-deployed naval forces, she serves as the AEGIS air defense shield for the Seventh Fleet's carrier strike group.
