USS Valley Forge crest
The Valley Forge, commissioned in 1986, is a Ticonderoga-class cruiser named for General Washington's 1777–78 winter encampment—the crucible that forged the Continental Army into a fighting force. She deployed to the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm and participated in Tomahawk strikes against Iraqi targets. A ship named for endurance and transformation, she served the Atlantic Fleet through a distinguished career before her decommissioning in 2004.
