USS Wayne E. Meyer

Commissioned in 2012, the Wayne E. Meyer honors Rear Admiral Wayne E. Meyer, the father of the Aegis Weapon System—the shipboard combat management and air defense system that defines every Ticonderoga cruiser and Arleigh Burke destroyer in the fleet today. Meyer drove the Aegis program from concept to operational reality with relentless technical brilliance and a refusal to accept anything less than perfection. The ship that carries his name is itself an Aegis combatant—a fitting tribute.
