USS Yorktown crest
The Yorktown, commissioned in 1984, is a Ticonderoga-class cruiser named for the 1781 siege that ended the Revolutionary War. She made international headlines in 1988 when she and the USS Caron exercised the right of innocent passage through Soviet territorial waters in the Black Sea—resulting in a Soviet frigate deliberately ramming her. The Yorktown held her course. She was decommissioned in 2004, but sailors who know her know that when someone rammed her, she didn't move.
