This framed photo features the iconic island superstructure of USS Ranger (CV-61) — the carrier's bridge tower, mast, and stack rising from the flight deck. The island was the carrier's nerve center, housing the bridge, primary flight control (PriFly), and combat information center, and her mast carried the radars and antennas that made fleet operations possible. Ranger's seven Vietnam combat deployments and 1990-91 Desert Storm cruise were directed from this very superstructure. Decommissioned July 10, 1993, she remains a Pacific Fleet legend. This framed ship's island photo is a tribute to her crew and the watchstanders who fought her from the bridge through more than three decades of service.
