USS Ingraham crest
Commissioned in 1992, the Ingraham honors Captain Duncan Nathaniel Ingraham, a 19th-century naval officer famous for the 1853 Koszta Affair—in which he faced down an Austrian man-of-war in the harbor of Smyrna to demand the release of a man claiming American protection, one of the most audacious acts of American naval assertiveness in the 19th century. The Ingraham served the Pacific Fleet until her decommissioning in 2010.
