USS Jason Dunham crest
Commissioned in 2010, the Jason Dunham honors Corporal Jason L. Dunham, USMC, who was killed in Iraq in April 2004 after using his helmet and his body to smother a grenade blast and shield his fellow Marines—the first Marine awarded the Medal of Honor for service in Iraq. He was 22 years old. The Jason Dunham carries his name on every port visit and every patrol, a ship named for a man who made the ultimate choice in an instant without hesitation.
