USS Olympia

Commissioned in 1984, the Olympia is a Los Angeles-class nuclear attack submarine named for Washington State's capital city. The name carries echoes of the famous cruiser USS Olympia—Dewey's flagship at Manila Bay—though this Olympia fought a different kind of war, in silence beneath the surface rather than in smoke and cannon fire above it. She served the Pacific Fleet before her decommissioning in 2010.
