USS Providence

Commissioned in 1985, the Providence is a Los Angeles-class nuclear attack submarine named for Rhode Island's capital city—home of the Naval War College, which has shaped American strategic thinking since 1884. Providence has been one of the Navy's intellectual homes; it is fitting that a submarine carries its name into the deep Atlantic. She was decommissioned in 2006.
