USS Samuel Eliot Morison

Commissioned in 1980, the Samuel Eliot Morison honors Rear Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison, the Harvard historian and naval officer who wrote the definitive 15-volume official history of United States naval operations in World War II. Morison insisted on seeing every battle firsthand, sailing aboard warships throughout the war to get his facts right—producing the most comprehensive naval history of the conflict ever written. The Samuel Eliot Morison was decommissioned in 1994.
