USS Underwood

Commissioned in 1983, the Underwood is an Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate that served the Atlantic Fleet through the Cold War before her decommissioning in 2005. Like all ships of her class, she performed the convoy escort, maritime patrol, and anti-submarine warfare missions that kept the sea lanes open during one of the most tense decades of the Cold War—unglamorous work, essential work, done well.
