USS Boone

Commissioned in 1982, the Boone honors Rear Admiral Walter Frederick Boone, who served as Commander, Naval Forces Europe and spent a career bridging World War II and the Cold War. Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates like the Boone were the workhorses of the Cold War Navy—shepherding convoys, hunting submarines, and projecting American presence across the globe at a price the fleet could sustain. She was decommissioned in 2012 after 30 years of service.
