USS McClusky

Commissioned in 1983, the McClusky honors Rear Admiral Clarence Wade McClusky Jr., the air group commander who made one of the most consequential tactical decisions of World War II—pressing the search for the Japanese fleet at Midway past his bingo fuel point and then leading the dive-bomber strike that sank three Japanese carriers in minutes and turned the tide of the Pacific War. McClusky's initiative changed history. The McClusky was decommissioned in 2002.
